Fyi, For anyone that comes across this. We still have the Carrier Air V 15k and a couple weeks ago it would overload my Magnum 3000 inverter whether on generator or solar/ batteries. Took the condenser motor off and checked the bearings and the bottom bearings was just about seized.  Parts place in town had the bearings (SKF 6201LL) $15each, Ace hardware had a bearing puller $32, 2 rubber grommets $2.50. Roughly $65 into the repair. AC is running nicely again.

Other than those bearings those Carrier’s are tough to get parts for.  Often owners are told the units are not serviceable, because you cannot buy a fan, but bearings in fan are easily replaced.  I am in salty and rains a lot Florida. I replaced those bearings 3 times in both units on my 2010 FWS – the last time with sealed bearings that held up much longer. Finally they had other issues that were not repeatable. Moved to BriskII.  Taller, but not taller than fantastic fan cover, and much better.   Lifestyle has AirXcel with similar fan and fan blade issues.  Newer models of same ac have sealed motors.

I was going to just replace the ac but it was becoming a hassle of trying to find a suitable drop in replacement and the a place to get it shipped to. Fulltimer and boondocker doesn’t make it easy at times. Bought a little more time for now.

I just replaced both of my Carriers with Furrion Chill Cubes. Which I highly recommend.  I have both my old units 15k heat pump and 13.5k w/thermostat. All parts and remote and both work. The only issue I had was with the 13.5k in bedroom kept throwing a breaker. Checked it out and I’m pretty sure it’s the blower fan motor. Capacitor and compressor both checked good.  Will let them go for $500 or best offer. I’m in DFW area.  Keith

Was it very difficult to replace with the Furrion Chill Cube?  We have a 1998 Carriage Conestoga in South Florida with just one 15K air conditioner, looking at replacing with the 18K Chill Cube.  Thanks for any help.

                    Barbie,

Jack has a great writeup on the install, particularly the thermostat required.  Fusion or Micro-Air may have the thermostat figured out by now.

everything fits into the same 14X14” hole in roof.  Two questions – 1. High profile0r low, and 2. Ducted or not ducted.  If newer model there is 3rd – bolted on top down or bolted on from below  older are all bolted from below even ducted,  Carrier vintage were all from bottom, and only had ducted, nut fully ducted with no ceiling panel .

oem wires should be fine, but note Jacks comments about furnace.

Another LONG update various topics july 2025 36Max1

Not at all.  You just have to get the separate thermostat and coupling wire kit for your thermostat.  They’ve worked exceptionally well and are very quiet.  Except at start up.  You could actually run two on a 30 amp system they draw less than 10 amps each usually 4-7 amps. They come with installed soft starts.
