The Bad News:  Larger slide will not retract under power.  Motor spins, a rapid thumping noise is heard, but slide won’t move.  The last time it retracted under power there was a loud thump and the slide stopped about 1/4″ away from fully closed.  It opened normally but now won’t move.
The Good News:  it’s in my driveway.
Bad News:  Until the slide gets retracted I can’t tow the unit anywhere to have it repaired.


Good News:  We don’t leave on our 2200 mile trip until mid-November.

I need help figuring out how to retract the slide manually.  Peering up through the zipper hatch in the underbelly I can see the back end of the motor and a small gear that engages the “rack” of the rearmost slide mechanism.  I can’t see the business end of the motor unless I create another access hatch.  I see a four-pointed fitting on the end of a shaft (circled in the pic below) that runs the width of the  slide and through the aforementioned small gear engages both racks.  I turned off the safety switch above the slide operating switch and put a crescent wrench on this four-pointed fitting.  (I own no socket that will fit this fitting.)  I can’t turn it clockwise.  

As may be obvious, I’m well out of my depth here and will be grateful for any assistance.

moo2613: Someone with more knowledge will chime in, but I believe there is a brake on the motor that has to be released before the slide can move.

msw3113:  I have heard that, thought the release switch above the in/out switch took care of the brake.
If that’s not the case, I would like to know.

Last night three burly fellows lifting and pushing, with my bride inside operating the switch, got the slide retracted.  Next stop: a repair facility with better experienced and better-equipped hands to diagnose and fix whatever the problem is.

Pkg. download step by step

  • 10. Once Extracted, you can open and view the file.
