- I have a 2008 Cameo with a ductless Carrier unit in the bedroom. There are two dials on the unit, one for temperature and the other for AC HIGH/AC LOW/OFF/FAN LOW/FAN HIGH. There is also an on/off rocker switch. What does this switch do? The AC works whether the rocker is set to on or off.
HELP!
Thanks,
ShawnPosted: 1:50 PM – May 23, 2017Shawn,That sounds like a low profile Carrier AC unit. If so, air comes out either end and also shoots straight down if you open that vent.
That switch turns on and off the oscillator mechanism that moves both end vents up and down. If the 4 screws holding the plastic ceiling cover are too tight, the oscillator will move only a little bit, or not at all.
Posted: 2:01 PM – May 23, 2017If you take that plastic cover all the way off, you will see the 4 bolts that hold the ac unit on the roof. There is a gasket between the ac units and the roof. If someone tightened those bolts too much, it squeezes that gasket to a point, then draws the bottom frame upward to the roof. That draws the oscillating unit upwards too. In those cases, the switch turns on the oscillator motor but it cannot contact the vents in the plastic ceiling facia, or if it does, the facia is no longer flat and the oscillator binds up, so nothing happens.I found this to be a good feature in the living area, but in the bedroom, I left both the front and rear vents aimed downward, and the downward vent open slightly.
PS, those filters need cleaning often. Easiest with a vacuum.
