- Just purchased a straighttalk wifi hotspot for $79.00 and no contract. Data is purchased on a pay as you go basis and is very reasonably priced…4 g was $40.00 and has a 60 day window to be used. The network is verizon only, and speed limited to 3g.
The verdict; great. Speeds are more than adequate, setup simple and unit functions flawlessly. An unexpected bonus is that the unit is capable of battery operation for those times when there is no power. It is pocket sized and capable of being carried around with you if that is something you want to do.
This is a perfect unit for those that don’t need full time year round wi-fi…or even for those that do and are sick of contracts!
I have to say that I also went with straighttalk for smart phone service and am extremely satisfied with the product. Saving me plenty of money over verizon or att.

RayPosted: 8:23 AM – Mar 23, 2014http://www.straighttalk.comThe wifi hotspot is verizon only…their phones are either verizon or att….if you call them they can tell you what network each phone is on…..good luck.
Posted: 6:45 AM – Mar 24, 2014Does the myfi unit have a port for an external antennae input? Is the 60 day period by calendar month, or can you go from the 15th to the 14th, in some cases only the 13th or 12th?
Thanks for the info.
Posted: 8:53 AM – Mar 24, 2014No external port….I assume 60 days is actually that but that is an assumption.Posted: 12:28 AM – Apr 26, 2014Thanks for the hotspot info, have been struggling with campground hotspots and do not want a contract for 3 months winter stay. Will try StraighttalkPosted: 10:43 AM – Apr 26, 2014if you want 4G, you may want to consider the AT&T hotspot. It was $99.99 at Best Buy, but data is good only for a month, and is $60 for 6 gigs, but can top up during the 30 days for $10 per gig. Considerably faster than my wifi at home.Rick
Posted: 4:11 AM – May 02, 2014Millicom has a program for 25GB for 89.00 per month and it’s 4G using the Verizon network and no contract.Posted: 8:00 AM – May 02, 2014All of these look better than what we have; we have a Verizon hot spot with a 2-year contract. We use it 6 months a year but pay year round. It cost us $60 per month for 2 gig and is 4G; we do move it up and pay more when we are on the road, but for ½ the year we pay for something we’re not using. We need to re-think what we are using and see what it would take to get out of ours. The Millicom looks good I wonder if the no contract mean we can get it for just the months we use it?

Assuming that you are streaming video, how much can you stream in that 25G? I seem to average about 4-5 G per month on the pc and 2-3 on the smartphone…but no streaming except some pandora on the phone. Might be a great plan for the work from the road crowd!
Posted: 11:58 AM – May 02, 2014Regardless of whether you are a Verizon or AT&T customer, you should look into the 2-3 month old “share everything” plans. I saved over $100 and get a lot more data than ever used with phones. You buy a base plan of unlimited call and text, just choose how much data. Plan attaches to first device then each device whether phone or wife is a flat rate of 15, 20, or 25-40 depending upon plan (cheaper rates the more devices, higher if subsidizes free rates. No carrier will call you and tell you that you could save money with these new plans.B.W.Gentry
