- Louvered 5th Wheel Tailgate for a GMC 3500 in my case.
I ordered one from etrailer and they got it wrong, but I get to pay
for the shipping to get it back, I’M mad enough to bite nails!
They basically said it was all my fault.Beyond all that I’M looking for a Louvered 5th Wheel Tailgate for a GMC 3500 dully.
I keep hearing on other forums about tearing up there tail gate and not if it will happen,
but when it will happen. I figure getting a louvered now will save me, I will be one
that is when it will.
So any one with suggestions? I’M doing searches and they seem high to me.
and I’M ruling out eTrailer for any thing in the future. Thanks for your help..

Posted: 2:48 PM – Sep 07, 2013There is this one on ebay: This was the best price I found, not sure it’s the right one for you but it did say for a 3500. If it’s the right one for your truck, you could offer a lower bid.Stromberg Carlson VGD-02-3500 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate

http://www.truckcustomizers.com/product … MgodVhAAYAPosted: 11:19 PM – Sep 07, 2013We have the Custom Flow Elite on our 3500 HD single rear wheel. I believe we paid about $450 for it. It is lockable, and we were able to get the fill-in piece where the fifth wheel pin passes through. We have a tonneau cover and the plug reduces threat of theft from the pickup box.Rick
Posted: 9:41 AM – Sep 08, 2013I guess I’m also having a hard time figuring out which one.
After trying to buy from etrailer, getting it and it being wrong, I’M gun shy.
I’ve emailed people on amazon, eBay and other sites no response. Started this
Thursday. Guess I’ll call around Monday.
Thanks every one…Posted: 12:15 PM – Sep 08, 2013You can call Custom Flow directly. I did and they were helpful. I believe they are still located in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, so mountain standard time.Rick

Thanks every one for your help.Posted: 2:25 PM – Sep 08, 2013Don,My last stop i saw a rig where a guy used a piece of 3/4 inch plywood, with lots of 1.5 inch holes to let air through. He also had a fill-in slat for security. Sorry that i did not take a picture! I do remember that it was bolted from the inside and that the regular hinges and latches were exposed making it look less than finished. This is the most secure way to fasten it, but a little trim would have given it better street appeal. A little while back i saw a guy that used two 2×12’s similarly mounted, with a wide v cutout for the hitch, but no cut out holes for air.
Some of the louvered ones are so flimsy that you can’t put a heavy load on them, let alone stand on them.
Posted: 2:54 PM – Sep 08, 2013Don.Are you worried about damaging the tailgate when hitching and Unhitching? If so save your money and get a good check list. I still have this step on my check list even though I no longer have a tail gate. I use my checklist every time and never have any problems. It’s very easy to get distracted when leaving out or getting to a park so if something doesn’t get checked off I don’t proceed until it does. Has saved my butt more than once. I have a very good printable checklist I can furnish you if you are interested.

Chip,
Can you post it at your convenience?
Posted: 3:25 PM – Sep 08, 2013Here is my Check list. Some of the items I no longer use such as the tail gate and the air bags. I now have a 4500 flat bed.

Posted: 12:18 AM – Sep 09, 2013I have a Husky aluminum locking tailgate, second one ,as I changed trucks, very well made , and won’t rust if scraped, around $550 in Canada, but IMHO worth every penny !!!Posted: 6:09 AM – Sep 09, 2013JohnD222 wrote:Chip,Do you run down the road with out propane to your frig or is this just when you put it into storage?
I have a residential frig.
Posted: 7:09 AM – Nov 11, 2013Don – I have a louvered 5th wheel tailgate. It is from my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 short box. I no longer have that truck – I am north of Mpls – if you pass through this area I would give it to you. It is a plastic one that you cannot stand on. It served its purpose, it also has a lock on it. regards Byron n gailPosted: 9:24 AM – Nov 11, 2013ByronnGail wrote:Don – I have a louvered 5th wheel tailgate. And being mine is a plastic 1 it will happen sooner than later..
Thanks Byron Gail for your generosity.Posted: 11:47 PM – Nov 12, 2013If I were you I would look on craigslist. I have had good luck, but just be patient and you will find what you are looking for, for a fraction of the price you would pay for new.Good luck
