Last time out every time I hit a bump I would get message “trailer disconnected” then next bump “trailer connected”? I checked my 7 pin plug and even replaced it. I checked all wire nuts for the plug connections. Now I have everything working (running lights, turn signals, back up lights, brake lights) but I still get the message “no trailer connected” when I try to squeeze the manual trailer brake control. Anyone know where the brakes are suppose to be grounded out in an original Carriage by Carriage? Any idea what to try next? Thanks…

I have had a problem with my trailer plug coming loose from the 7 pin plug but you have already checked that. So, I am afraid I have no idea where to go from there. Hope you find the problem.

I had a similar sounding problem when we bought our 2015 GMC Sierra earlier this year – bottom line was a brake magnet had a wire exposed and only a few strands were still together – most of the wires were broken.

Here is a link to the thread:

My solution is on page 3 of the thread, 2nd post from the bottom.

I had the problem and turned out to be the kind of plug. The original has double sides the plug that works has one copper side. There are pictures on another post about this connection.

I had a similar problem with my Ford F350 and found that if I hit the “reset” button it would go away.

I wish I could hit “reset” and have it go away LOL.

Since it was on and off on every bump it must be loose wiring. I was wondering about the “break-away” connection and if perhaps they can go bad and if that would cause the loss of connectivity? But, I guess if that went bad, it would be trying to put on the breaks?

I had a similar problem and after replacing the trailer connector it went away, then came back later. Since I replaced the “brake away” connector I have not had the problem again. I am crossing my fingers…..
