Electrical mystery….

We just started our winter travels, and after a very long (2400 mile) drive, have spent our first week at Skidaway Island state park near Savannah, Georgia. Great park, no issues with our trailer on 50 amp. Yesterday we moved to Hanna park in Jacksonville, Fla.
When we hooked up to the 50 amp service, we discovered we had no power to our main TV and components, micro/convection oven, washer/drier combo. Some plug ins worked others didn’t.
We then hooked up to the 30 amp service and everything worked again.

In summary…. Hooked up to 30 amp , everything works as normal. Hooked up to 50 amp, I lose the TV, oven, washer combo and several , but not all, plug ins.

I can’t figure it out, but then again I am almost Amish when it comes to electrical matters.

The only thing that changed is the post. Could this possibly be a supply issue?

        Any insights on this?

        Thanks

        Brad

Sounds like a dead leg or one, of the two, 50A breakers at the pedestal is bad. Do you have a volt meter? Check the voltage across both legs at the pedestal. Should be 240V. Check each leg to the common and it should be 120V. My guess is you’ll find one leg dead, at the pedestal.

        Thanks for the reply.
I do not have a volt meter and there was nobody at the park available to check the pedestal today. Therefore I am making do with 30 amp. I am moving on to another park on Monday, so I will see if everything is jake when I again plug into 50 amp shore power.

        Again, thanks for the reply.

My advise would be to purchase a volt meter and learn how to use it. I would never plug into shore power without first testing it. At the very least you should purchase a plug in surge protector, it could save you a lot of money, your rig and your life.

You nailed it retiredfields. Moved onto Rainbow River State Park in Dunnellon, Fla and absolutely no issues with 50 amp. Thanks.

Good advise, falconhunter. A surge protector is in my very near future. Thanks.
