I’m thinking of getting a dash camera for our truck. As I read the reviews they say that the unit will capture and keep clips 10 seconds before and 20 seconds after an impact. These records are permanent. The reviews also commented that a speed bump could set the recording off. Our truck pulling our RV does bump around and I was wondering if a Dash Cam would even work? Anyone using one?

I’m looking at the THINKWARE – X500 High-Definition Dash Camera

i bought a Vicovation Marcus 4 camera a couple of months ago. It powers up when the truck starts and continues to record as I drive, and loops back after the SD card is full. I have a 64 meg card and it will record in high resolution the entire day of driving. When parked, it will detect motion and has a g sensor and will record permanently if someone hits the front of our truck, while parked (the camera faces forward – but you can buy front and rear cameras). I got a gizmo that keeps the unit powered up when the ignition key is off, but disconnects if the battery voltage drops to 12 volts.

Early to tell how it will work, but I think it would be a ‘silent witness’ if we are involved in a collision. Some have GPS’s which track the location and speed you are traveling while driving. If you buy one, look for one that has a good resolution to capture license plate numbers.

Wishing you success on your search.

Here are several dashcams at Costco.com
        http://www.costco.com/Cobra-Drive-HD-Da … ml#reviews

I’ve been using the Cobra, $79.95 and it works well. It does seem a little sensitive to the G-force monitor. It locked a file while I was going through a carwash.
It comes with a free downloadable program which will display your dashcam video alongside a moving map display with a timestamp display
