- Here are a few before and after pics of our backsplash redo. We grew tired of the wood and how dark it was. The new backsplash adds so much light to the counter area. My wife and I started at 8:00 this morning and finished about 3:00. It cost about 135.00 and that included all the panels, trim and new receptical and switch covers. I have pics of during the process if anyone is interested. All the materials came from Home Depot.Posted: 7:48 PM – Jan 18, 2013Chip,
I must say that your backsplsah looks “GREAT”, no it looks better than “GREAT”, OUTSTANDING. I know what the DW will want next, send me your in-progress work pictures “PLEASE”.
Thanks
NatePosted: 8:11 PM – Jan 18, 2013I did most of the cuts with a straight edge and a sharp razor knife. I did more thinking and measuring than cutting to keep the waste down to a minimum. The first thing was to remove the blind, valance and all the plug and switch covers.
The next step was to start making cuts and temporarily assembling the panels with scotch tape.
Next was to paint the GFI extension silver.
Here is the trim on the edges.
Here is the inside corner trim.
Here is the hard part, cutting around the window.
I used some index cards and made templates to transfer to the panels.I used the double back tape on the panels and on the seams. And thats about it! Not a hard job just time consuming.

My bride hasn’t signed up individually yet for this forum so she won’t see this anytime soon. I put up a basic acrylic splash around the stove, but over the wallpaper to protect it from grease, etc., but this might have to go on the “to do”.
Posted: 3:35 PM – Jan 19, 2013Very nice job.We also decided the backsplash (or lack thereof) while nice in the dark cherry, was really impractical if you wanted to cook much on the cooktop. So, about a year ago, we also covered ours. In our case, we bought the materials at Lowes.
