- I have a 37 ft 2010 Cameo with out generator. It came wired. Thinking about installing one. What Generator should I look at . Since the wires are there is there one that will be easy. Should I consider the Honda 3000 portable. I have one air conditioner. Don’t boondock a lot but thinking about long trips where the A/C may be needed , I would appreciate some direction.!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
KenPosted: 8:23 AM – Dec 06, 2013We don’t have a generator on our present trailer, but we’ve had built in Onan generator in other rigs in the past and they are great. One thing we’ve found is you need to use your generator or you will have problems, at least that’s what we found. I’ve not used a portable one but you don’t need built in wiring just start it up and plug your power cord in.Here a good site for Onan.
Posted: 4:04 PM – Dec 06, 2013do a search on generators here and you will see a lot of posts including mine where I installed one and used the wiring that you eluded too.Posted: 5:41 PM – Dec 06, 2013There is a post on the forum about a member who installed a Honda 3000 in the front compartment that is on full extension guides. Looks very useful for occasional use and probably 1/3rd the cost and 1/2 the weight. When I was considering a hard wired Onan unit I was amazed how quickly they consume propane. For tgat reason alone, I lean toward portables. I carry a Honda 2000 since I don’t need A/C when boon docking.Posted: 9:27 PM – Dec 08, 2013Jake –That is my generator, and it is very handy. I am considering doing a propane conversion on my generator so that I can get rid of the plastic bomb I carry in the back of my truck.
