We took delivery of our LS36fw March 2014.  It had fresh tires dated 40th week of 2013.  So later this year they will be 7 years old.  Current mileage is 16k.  I keep them inflated to 115psi and they are always covered when not in use.  The tires are Goodyear 17.5 G114.  Great reputation but like any tire age will get to them often before mileage.

I have made the decision to replace them with the popular Sailun S637.  I have been following a few forums for info on the Sailun and have yet to read a negative comment.  In fact, a few posts said they were preferred by flat bed hot shot drivers over GY and other brands.  The price is nearly 2/3 less than the GY.

I’m planning to replace them in the Spring.   They look incredible and show no signs of any uneven wear, sidewall cracks, etc.  I have heard always replace tires no longer than 7 years so I will be time and I want to do it before hot weather.

I can’t justify the cost of the GY when the Sailun has every bit as good a reputation as GY and others costing much more particularly considering I’m not a full-timer.  Granted, one does not have to be a full-timer to have a tire issue!

Does anyone feel I should replace sooner and should NOT get the Sailun tires.  Thanks, Phil

17.5 Sailuns .   1  1/2 year old no problems  Cameo 35 SB3 . would plan to change at 6 years and would buy again. Consider the 17.5’s

Thanks and I do already have 17.5 rims. Best price is Walmart but I think I’d take them to a real tire place for mounting, balancing and new stems. Simple Tire is about $100 more than Walmart.

I purchased Sailun 17.5 tire and rim from Tredit on line, free shipping already mounted and balanced cheaper than I could purchase 16” Goodyear tire by itself.  I have about 5000 miles one them from Canada and down to Mazatlan Mexico and I see little to no wear on them at all.  Very happy with the better ride of the 17.5” tire along with heavier weight rating.  Replaced 16” Goodyear’s after 5 years.  Still looked good but nervous about continuing running that old of tire.

I replaced my G614’s with the same about 3 months ago.  Never had any problems with old ones just wearing down and time to replace.  I don’t know anything about sailun tires.  I’ve had my share of tire blowouts, not the GY’s.  It always happens at a bad time.  I just stayed with the problem free GY’S.  I’m getting to old for tire problems.

We are also considering Sailuns as replacements for our Goodyear G614s. Our tires are now 5 years old and look to be in great shape but we would like the peace of mind of new tires now that we will be traveling a lot with David’s job.

Have heard nothing but good about Sailun tires. We will buy from Walmart but take to the local tire place for install.

                    Jlsr,

Same here…Walmart!  Best price at $175 each for the 17.5 diameter.  Sounds like you have 16 inch rims since you mention G614.  If you have it you budget, I highly suggest upgrading to 17.5 rims.  The tire choices for a quality 17.5 tire is much greater than quality choices available in a 16 inch rim.  The tire diameter will be almost the same since the 17.5 have a shorter sidewall.  We ordered our LS with the GY G114 17.5 tires and they have been great but are very pricey to replace compared to the Sailun.  I agree, rare to hear of any issues with Sailun tires.  We will probably replace late April.

Thanks jdpm, we are thinking we’ll just do the tires right now but will get the same size Sailun as the Goodyears we have on it now.  We’re saving up for our next big expense … we want to get MorRyde IS and Disc Brakes installed.  Hopefully later this year.  We’re thinking that upgrade, along with the TrailerSaver we recently got, will make our LS float down the road :-)

                        Jlsr,

MorRyde usually has a great sale on parts and installation thru late February, sometimes March.  Trailer Tires & Wheels is one state over from Indiana so you pay no sales tax or shipping.  They drop ship to MorRyde 2-3 times a week.  Weather is not bad usually.  Hotel rates are cheap, and shopping/eating out too- much better than hanging around the shop.  Plenty of time for that.

You will not be disappointed in the IS/disk combo. Night and day difference in towing. We got our tires and wheels at Trailer Tires & Wheels. All good people.

                            Thanks John and part-time,

We have talked to Morryde a few times about the IS/disc brakes and it is definitely something we want to do. I think the Morryde guy said Dec -Feb they do the discount of 10%.  Probably will do it next winter .. just spent a bunch on the Flex Armor RV roof.

However after following David towing the Lifestyle down what has to be the worst road in the US, hwy 285 between Carlsbad NM and Pecos Tx I can sure see where IS would be beneficial ! Glad we have the TrailerSaver!

Getting new tires put on today … :-)

I did have a Sailun blowout in December.  I was in the Destin, FL Area for 2 nights and was unable to find a Sailun replacement.  I ended up with a Yokohama from Southern Tire Mart (about $280 out the door) right off of I-10 by the Loves Travel stop exit 70.  They found that the o-ring on the valve stem was split in 2 and we suspect that was the culprit of the blowout.  Pleasure to deal with and I think I will upgrade to the Yokohama’s next round.  Nothing wrong with the Sailun, just like the stiffer sidewall of the Yokohama.

I too am looking at alternates for the GY 114’s I currently have so I’ve been looking at the Sailun and Yokohama tires. Can someone verify that I’m looking at the correct models for these 2 manufacturers? For Sailun I’ve got a model # of S637 and for the Yokohamas I’ve got a model # of RY023.

                                Thanks

Correct on both of the model numbers.

I had 4 new 17.5 Sailun tires installed this week with new valve stems and balanced.  After much, much reading about the reliability of Sailun tires I could not justify spending another $600 for Goodyear.  Due to the Covid, we have not had the LS out since late January.  We leave on the 24th for a week in the FL Panhandle.  Excited to get out and see how to the pin box tows and the new Sailuns ride.  Hope everyone is well and safe!

First trip out with the new tires.  So far so good.  Seem to ride well and run cooler.
