A lot depends upon the weight on the heaviest side of your 5er. Most 16-inch tires cannot take the weight of the heavier 5er’s and even fewer are rated for more than 65 mph.  Goodyear is the exception, but depending upon weight may be only marginally so, especially if you are not diligent about maintaining tire pressure.

upgrading to 17.5 tires and rims is a positive in most instances so long as both rims and tires are rated for the speeds at which you travel.  H ratings ride a bit rough unless you have a very heavy 5er.  G rated 17.5’s  are probably more appropriate but harder to find.

goodyear has been golden with regard to warranty, mostly because there is rarely a claim, but when there is they pay for tire and 5er damage which is often substantial when blowouts occur.

if you buy a cheaper tire sometimes you luck out and it truly is cheaper over its life. Reality is that these tires age out long before the tread wears out.  Only you can answer how much risk you are willing to take.

I had the 16″ Goodyears for several years and yes, they have the best warranty by far and will pay for the damage the tire causes to the camper when it blows out.  I then switched to 17.5 Sailun’s.  I am very happy with the 17.5 upgrade, but not the Sailuns.  I had 2 of them blow out fairly quickly.  I have since swapped three of them for Hankook’s after the 2nd blowout and the first one was replaced with a Yokohama.  I am very happy with both of these tires and would recommend either one.  I think I like the Hankook a little better because it more resembles the Goodyear G614 tread pattern and they are what the windmill haulers use.  I would recommend spending a little more upfront in a controlled situation instead of having to buy what you can find on the road.  Southern Tire Mart is who I use on the road and they are who installed both the Yokohama and the Hankook’s.  I was lucky enough to have one of their stores close after each blowout.

I replaced 16” Goodyear’s with 17.5 H rated sailun tires and have had great luck with them.  Two trips to Mazatlan Mexico on very rough roads along with several trips to Canada without a single problem.  Will be heading to Alaska this summer and don’t plan on changing tires prior to trip!!  Highly recommend sailun tires!!

                Thanks members for your feedback

Our Current RV weight: left side 3750 3425, right side 3225 3150 (after adding MoRRyde IS System)
Our Good year tire has 3750 max weight limit.
I feel comfortable on freeway driving at 68 mph
We are fulltime Rv and average 6,000 miles a year and with no issue with our current tires.
                So I’m struggling.

I have the 17.5 Sumitoma’s that are made in Japan, and they are an awesome tire, 5 years of trips to AZ and back to Canada , and absolutely no issues
