General question for those that have adjusted the full wall slide brackets to correct the side flange from bending outwards when slide is retracted.  I’ve researched and read all the posts I could find regarding this.  Before messing with the rollers I’ve decided to lower the slide at the outer bracket to level the slide and tilt the top of the slide outwards to relieve pressure that is created on the flange.

The front of the slide closes as it should, the flange is not bent.  Slide closes flush with the wall.  The rear of the slide (living room area) the flange is bent outwards when closed.  Slide pulling in too far.

My question is, do I lower all the brackets evenly.  I think there is a total of 3? slide arms and brackets under the FW slide, 2 under the largest kitchen living room area and 1 in the front storage area.  I’m unsure if I only adjust the pitch in the rear (2 in the kitchen living room area) since that is the area that is tilted forward causing the slide flange to be stressed.

Appreciate any advice from those who have adjusted the slide.

      Thanks

      Jeff

        Jeff,

Hopefully several of us who have been through the drill can help.

This all originates because almost 100% of the indoor accessible storage is in that FWS.  The roller system in the peninsula (garbage can area) is just not enough to handle everything rear of the “bottom of the stairs” roller.  On older units (my 2010) the roller there flat out fails because of very poor design.  Jack Ramsey documented how to fix, but I think, repeat think, much of that will not apply to my 2023 or your 2016.  Why? Lifestyle smartened up and put the roller on the floor not the slide.  Not quite the leverage of the additional 16” out at the end of the peninsula, but a lot more solid UNLESS, and here a big unless because I have not torn my 2013 apart to inspect the area that Jack fixed.  If Lifestyle did the same stupid stuff with plywood underbelly, that peninsula area can again be the failure point in supporting the weight of all of the contents of cabinets rear of the bottom step to the bedroom.

A guy named Fox in Indiana added a roller under the TV area.  That is the real fix, but do not know how he did it.  I imagine pulling the entire slide and mounting the roller like the 2010 and earlier vintage in the peninsula, but think it might be doable without removing the slide if you follow Jacks’s photo’s.

There are rollers on the outer frame of the 5rr, but we won’t go there just yet

First, how do the decals line up in the rear when slide is closed?

As you open the slide, does it approach the 5er wall fairly evenly or is it significantly tighter at top or bottom?  Which?

The above drives what adjustments will do.  If fairly straight as it approaches the 5er wall, is is all about removing weight of items you (and I) put there since the factory delivered them to us empty (piss poor design).

How many miles in the 5er?

Remember any terrible bumps/jolts going down a terrible road?

        More when you respond.

I know Jack is trying to get out of town

If your slide is coming in level and correctly at front but not rear , perhaps it needs a limit switch adjustment?

The next time we go check on ours at storage I will take a look to verify the location of the rear-most roller. Just seems like there is one under the TV area. 2015 LS36FW. <!–more–>

There are also 3 synchronizer gears within the wall mechanism.

IF the wall was 7 feet tall the entire length those would be simple to test. If you watch what the middle of the back is doing as it starts going in versus the bottom of the front you can get an idea of what should be happening. As the wall moves in further, the weight of stuff in the wall causes it to tilt in OR

              JohnD

This FW is new to us as of June of ‘24.  I would assume the unit has less then 10k miles on it.  The original owner bought it new and travelled to Texas a few times with it, then just did mostly in state camping.

As for weight in the slide, we are weekend campers and have minimal cargo in the slide.  Most of the weight would be in front of the axel.  It does not have a washer dryer, so that area is used for storage – coats, water and cleaning supplies –  we have changed the mattress out from a queen to a king so there is a little added weight there.

I believe Lifestyle rectified the roller issue under the garbage can area.  When the slide pulls in/closing it comes in almost completely level. Obviously there is some inward tilt when closed as the outside top of the flange is pushed outwards.

I’ll pull the slide in this afternoon to check the decal alignment, but from memory they line up as they should.

Reading the post regarding the recommendation from alko? The manufacturer of the slide, if the top hits first at closing and the slide is dragging on the carpet, by dropping the outer bracket down, it will tilt the top of the slide outwards, and raise the bottom of the slide upwards raising off the carpet.

Sounds like the best logical solution to start with.

Im just unsure with the length of the slide and the fact the top flange in the front is correct and the rear is hitting if I just adjust the 2 rear brackets to correct that.  Not that it would, but I don’t want to twist the slide.  I really don’t think dropping the rear 2 brackets an 1/8 would cause that much twist.

                Jeff,

Dont worry about twisting the slide with those minor changes – it is being twisted a bit now given the rear flange.

before making adjustments also watch the rear inside trim as you open the wall all the way out. If you drop those outer brackets too much. The top tilts out too much when slide is open and will pop off the top trim. The side will probably pop off first. That wide trim is only held in with long staples so it pushes back into place pretty easily.  Of the two, I would say popping the interior trim a bit when the camper is parked is much better than having the outer flanges bent outward while driving down the road.

the synchronizing joints will not change total movement in or out. I had to change this only once – that was when a solid block fell between the front inner trim and the 5er wall. That motor is very strong and the wall pretty flexible- the 3 bolts holding the synchro ring slipped about 1:2 inch each – allowing the wall to go in completely in the rear but the block held the front out about 1 inch. Aside from taking the belly storage wall apart to get to the sync ring, the toughest part was fishing that solid block out.

we changed out stock bed, replacing net base with plywood like the 2010.  Bed is memory foam weighing about 65 pounds. Combo caused screws holding roller under bed to twist out and bed frame edge started to gouge the carpet. Those rollers were screed into a 1×2 so wood twisted before pulling away. I wrote that up someplace I think. If no marks on bedroom floor ignore this. This would not impact the tear outer flanges in any case.
